| New life for the Kuckovo Village |
The village of Kuckovo, being one of the biggest villages in Skopje area in the past, is threatened by dying out from demographic reasons. Looking for employment in the capital city and abroad, majority of its citizens have by time left their homes and started new lives at other places. The beautiful school building, built in the charming Balkan’s version of art nouveau in the 1920-s, was abandoned long time ago. However, the years of emptiness and silence have not yet destroyed its loveliness. Hidden in the hills and forests in the northern part of the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov, it has retained its authenticity and attractiveness. |

| Fifth Annual Conference on Enhancing Macedonian Exports |
The Fifth Annual Conference on Enhancing Exports was organized on June 11, 2009, by USAID’s Macedonian Business Environment Activity (BEA) and Ministry of Economy (MOE). The new concept was jointly developed between BEA and MoE by separating the three working groups’ sessions (on enhancing of exports of agricultural products, industry and services) from the main event. |

| BEA has Supported the Annual Conference of the Macedonian Stock Exchange |
BEA was the main supporter of the Tenth Jubilee Conference of the Macedonian Stock Exchange (MSE), held in Ohrid on April 23-25. Largest investment funds, potential investors, banks, regional stock exchanges, brokerage houses, regulators, auditors and capital market experts met to discuss the current situation on the global and local capital market and open the question of the future developments and prospects. Particular emphasis was put on the strategies to combat the global capital market slowdown and ways to improve secondary market liquidity. |

| BEA has Supported the Establishment of the Public Procurement Training Center |
BEA has taken a step forward in its efforts to contribute to the implementation of the new Public Procurement Law. It has supported the establishment of the Public Procurement Training Center, aimed at preparing public procurement professionals in both the public and private sector. BEA’s partners in this activity are the Public Procurement Bureau, USAID’s Human and Institutional Development Program and the Faculty of Law (at the “Sts. Cyril and Methodius University”). |

| Interns Today – Successful People Tomorrow |
Zlatko Simjanoski is a young environmental protection engineer, whose keenness for learning extends beyond the field of his education. He joined the USAID’s Business Environment Activity (BEA) as an intern in December 2007, when he started out helping BEA’s Labor Market Reform team. One of the main goals of this team is to support the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy to develop and implement effective labor market policies that would contribute to solving the issue of unemployment.

| Single Window System for Simplified Export/Import |
The Government of Macedonia has announced that starting from November 1, the Single Window system on Exports and Imports (SW) will become operational. Creation of the system is a joint effort of the Government of Macedonia and USAID’s Business Environment Activity (BEA) and e-Gov Project. Under its official title Single window for import and export and one-stop control, it will be made operational through the web portal www.exim.gov.mk . |
