| New Software Solution for the Employment Service Agency through USAID |

The Employment Service Agency launched an Integrated Software Solution which will help job seekers access information on what jobs are available as well as what types of employees are currently in demand in the labor market. This software will enable job seekers to research a variety of professions, find out what skills are required and what the average salaries are, and get guidance in their career development. |

| First Group of Public Procurement Trainers Certified |

Since 2006, the American people, through the USAID Business Environment Activity (BEA), have supported public procurement reform in Macedonia to minimize corruption and increase the transparency of public procurements. In addition, through the Human and Institutional Development Program (HIDP), they are providing support to the Public Procurement Bureau for implementation of the new Public Procurement Law. |

| Social Dialogue for Better Work Environment |

The USAID Business Environment Activity has promoted social dialogue since 2006 to help build a favorable business climate through better communication between employers, trade unions and government authorities. Social dialogue is a process of negotiation or simply information exchange on issues of common interest relating to economic and social policy. |

On 26 May, 2009, USAID’s Business Environment Activity presented the results of the newest report on the assessment of the business environment in Macedonia – BizCLIR. In the presence of representatives from the private and public sector who took part in the BizCLIR Survey, and international donors in the Republic of Macedonia as well, Mr. Mark Walter, consultant from the U.S. consulting company Booz Allen Hamilton, talked about the results and recommendations of the report. |

| USAID Supports the Introduction of Advanced Education in Public Procurement |
|
On April 9, the Public Procurement Bureau and the Faculty of Law, together with the USAID’s Business Environment Activity and Human and Institutional Development Program, launched the Public Procurement Training Center. Establishing the Public Procurement Training Center will create a core of certified trainers who will subsequently provide the public procurement stakeholders (i.e., contracting authorities and economic operators) with professional development opportunities by advancing their theoretical and practical knowledge in public procurement.

| USAID Supports the Development of Active Labor Market Policies in Macedonia |
|
On November 24, the USAID Business Environment Activity (BEA) with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy held a conference on Employment Policies and Measures. The conference opened a dialogue between the social partners – government, employers and the trade unions – on the challenge of decreasing the number of unemployed people in the country through implementation of an extensive active labor market program. To provide for better performance of the government plan in the area of the labor market policy reform, the conference brought regional experts to present their countries’ experiences. |
